A New Life….

And so after a FABULOUS holiday in the Himalayas, Bombay and Kenya, I’m finally back in the city – a new life, a new home and 6 prospective years of poverty and slave labor. And so, of course, this is reason enough for a new blog – and wordpress rocks. Password protected posts. Cool.

So far, however, life has been pretty sweet. I moved into Cornell Housing on Saturday – never in my life have I ever seen the city so empty. It was almost like I was living in another world! Of course, the brother and the station wagon helped out (ie did all the grunt work while i looked perpexed and confused – coughing and jetlagging). And we (the sister-in-law, her sister and me) rolled down a dresser 2 avenue and 2 street blocks in a building dolly from my cousins house. Yes, the drawers kept falling out and there were minor injuries and lots of stares – but we did it!

In anycase, I absolutely love my new apartment – a three bed (I have the biggest room with 4 HUGE windows and a view), no roommates for a month and, therefore, first dibs on storage space – no stinky cabinets for me. Of course the previous students hadn’t cleaned up the place at all – so there were textbooks, a pair of shoes and fridge filled with expired chocolates, 3 month old milk and random jewish kosher stuff. Ew. The bathroom was really sketch – yellow and the bathtub had cobwebs, and the kitchen table had coffee stains.

But after 2 hours of scrubbing and cleaning – the house is now (relatively) spotless, the bathroom is sparkling and – bonus – there was 2-week-old beer – so all was not bad. Also my cousin is moving continents, so got a shitload of free stuff from him (and we all know how much i LOVE free stuff) including leftover port, tequila, vodka, fennel liqueur, beer and some more random misc booze. yum!
